Documentation/Contacts
Dynamic groups defined by rules, which update themselves.
A segment is a group defined by rules rather than by hand. Membership updates automatically as people start or stop matching — "contacts added in the last 30 days", "engaged subscribers", "customers who haven't purchased in 90 days".
Open Contacts → Segments
The Segments page lists every segment you've built.
Click New segment
The segment builder opens. Give it a clear, descriptive segment name.
Pick a category
Choose the category to build your rule from. The conditions available depend on the category — Engage tailors these to the industry you selected at setup.
Build your rules
Add one or more conditions, and combine them with the ALL (AND) / ANY (OR) toggle at the top — ALL means every rule must match, ANY means one is enough. Remove a condition with its delete control.
Save
Engage calculates membership and keeps it up to date from then on.

Building a segment with two rules
AND narrows — every condition must be true. OR widens — any one condition is enough. If a segment returns far more or far fewer people than you expected, this is almost always why.
Preset groups that Engage maintains for you appear alongside your own lists on the Lists page, marked by the Type column — so you can send to one without building any rules yourself.
Segments can be the audience for a campaign or a filter inside an automated flow. You can mix lists and segments in the same send — Engage de-duplicates so nobody gets the message twice.
The highest-value segment most teams build is an engagement segment — people who opened or clicked recently. Sending to that group instead of your whole database lifts open rates and protects deliverability.
Segmentation requires a Standard plan or above.
